The new album is set for a July 20 release.

FLASHBACK: JOHN LENNON AND PAUL McCARTNEY MEET

7/6/2010

It was 53 years ago today (July 6th, 1957), in Liverpool, England, that John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met. McCartney was brought to the St. Peter's Church Garden Fete in the Liverpool suburb of Woolton by his and Lennon's mutual friend Ivan Vaughan, to watch Lennon's group the Quarrymen perform. Vaughan recalled to Lennon biographer Ray Coleman that he told McCartney: "You've got to come and meet this guy John Lennon. You'll get on well with him."

Vaughan said that McCartney was more interested in checking out the girls attending the Church social than the musical acts. At the moment that McCartney first laid eyes on Lennon, he was on stage performing the Del Vikings' hit "Come Go With Me," with almost completely improvised lyrics.

7/7/2010

15 newly-remastered albums from the Beatles' Apple Records will be reissued both digitally and on CD on October 26th. The albums, which have all been out of print since the early '90s, will feature classic titles from James Taylor, Badfinger, Billy Preston, Mary Hopkin, Doris Troy, Jackie Lomax, John Tavener, and the Modern Jazz Quartet -- with most of the physical CD's containing bonus tracks. The reissue program marks the first time the Apple catalogue has been available digitally.

REPORTS OF NEW VAN HALEN ALBUM JUST 'RUMORS'

7/7/2010

Van Halen spokesperson Janie Van Halen, wife of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, denied rumors that surfaced last weekend that the band's first new album with singer David Lee Roth in 26 years was going to come out in early 2011. Janie Van Halen told Rolling Stone, "What is going around is exactly that, rumors. I don't have any updates at this time."

A "source" told MelodicRock.com last week that a new Van Halen album was halfway done and that a single could emerge by the end of the year, adding, "The relationship between Eddie and Dave remains as complex as ever, but there is a definite desire to get a new record completed."

ROGER DALTREY SAYS SPRING 2011 WHO TOUR A POSSIBILITY

File Under: "We've Heard This One Before" -- but Roger Daltrey says that he and Pete Townshend are considering a spring 2011 Who tour. Over the past few years Daltrey has announced tentative recording and touring plans, with Pete Townshend presumably pulling the plug on them due to artistic and/or health reasons. Now Daltrey says that he and Townshend might be on the road as soon as next spring with a new and fully revamped live show.

Hard Rock Nights Sundays @ 7:00PM CDT

For the past two years, JT Carter has delivered a weekly dose of headbanging during the HARD ROCK NIGHTS radio program, and man is his neck tired. Beginning August 13, JT will unplug his microphone and Brian Basher will take over as the new voice of HARD ROCK NIGHTS.

Brian Basher is not a newcomer to the hard rock radio community. He formerly hosted the "Call of the Wild" metal program on KABF in Little Rock, AR, and is currently spinning records at FM 90 (http://kacvfm.org) in Amarillo, Texas, on the HARD ROCK HIDEOUT radio program every Wednesday night beginning at 9 p.m. central.

JT will continue to serve HARD ROCK NIGHTS as a special advisor and occasional host, while Brian Basher handles daily and weekly duties of webmaster and producer of the program.

Gregg Allman undergoes successful liver transplant

Gregg Allman undergoes successful liver transplant
By CHRIS TALBOTT
Rock 'n' roll Hall of Famer Gregg Allman underwent a successful liver transplant surgery Wednesday morning at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.
Allman's manager Michael Lehman told The Associated Press in a phone interview that Allman was groggy but awake Wednesday morning and that the co-founder of the seminal Southern rock group The Allman Brothers Band could be sitting up and on his feet by nightfall.

"He's psyched to put this time of his life behind him and have a chance again to feel really healthy and good, and hopefully live for many more years to come," Lehman said.

Good article about Tom Petty

By: Dennis Cook

Tom Petty by Sam Jones
Gris-gris, jack ball, hoodoo bag – all different names for the same thing, a totem that signifies rejuvenation, root energy, life force. When one's mojo is workin' they hum from the inside out and their actions strike like a marksman's arrow, sharp and true. So, it's fitting that the latest long-player by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers is dubbed Mojo (arriving June 15 on Reprise/WEA). Despite 35 years and counting on the ramparts, this band sounds like they scored a swell new mojo hand, coming on as fired up and ready to wave rock's banner as they did back in 1976. Mojo feels engaged on every level, the unadulterated sound of a rock band making rock music.

ELTON JOHN CONSIDERED RUSH LIMBAUGH WEDDING PERFORMANCE AN 'OLIVE BRANCH'

Elton John's partner David Furnish explained that Elton performed at Rush Limbaugh's wedding to prove a point. Furnish told People.com that even Elton was baffled by the request to perform at the Limbaugh's June 5th nuptials, saying, "To put it in Elton's exact words, when he got the invitation, he was 'a little surprised,' and then, when it turned out to be a genuinely sincere invitation. . . Elton said, 'Life is about building bridges, not walls.'"

He added that Elton said the performance among the nation's top conservatives was an opportunity "to go where people wouldn't expect me to go," telling Furnish: "Maybe if I can make a great impression, people might change their perspectives on life."

PETER FRAMPTON PLANNING GULF COAST AND NASHVILLE FLOOD BENEFIT

Peter Frampton is laying the groundwork for an upcoming benefit for both the Nashville flood victims and the gulf region affected by the BP oil disaster. Frampton posted on his Facebook page: "We are on tour right now and our dates are set but when I can, I will be doing something to benefit Nashville flood victims and the people in the Gulf area. Can't say when or where yet. Stay tuned."

Frampton and his band lost all of their equipment which was in a Nashville storage unit and are still scrambling to replace all their gear while on the road.

CREED KICKING OFF TOUR WITH NASHVILLE BENEFIT

Creed will kick off its "20-10" tour this summer with a benefit concert at the Hard Rock in Nashville on July 26th, with all proceeds going to help the victims of the recent Tennessee floods. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Hands On Nashville (HON), a local charity which is spearheading the flood recovery efforts. Tickets for the Nashville show are available at Ticket Alternative and at the venue box office on the night of the show if any are remaining.

Acts such as 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Kings Of Leon and Jack White have all lent their help to flood relief efforts.

NEW OZZY ALBUM NOW 'SCREAMING' ONLINE

Ozzy Osbourne's new album is now "screaming" -- make that "streaming" -- online in its entirety at the Prince of Darkness' MySpace page. Titled Scream, the record is due out next Tuesday (June 22nd) and follows up Ozzy's 2007 effort, Black Rain. The Ozz told us he didn't really have a plan in mind when he went into the studio this time: "I didn't go, like, 'I want it to be this, I want it to be that,' you know. It was just, Kevin Churko, my producer, me and him did most of the work in the studio and the band played on (it) as we laid the tracks down, because I wasn't in that much of a hurry to get in the studio and do an album. I mean, Kevin, he got the ideas and we built it from there."

MOJOMOJOSome time in the last few years Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers took a left turn. Maybe it was when Petty woke up in the night with the idea of reuniting his first band, Mudcrutch, to cut the album they never got a chance to make back in the early 70's.

A great classic
